went to the feed store because i was just about out of my chick starter feed. i told him it was for 2 week old chicks. he suggested that i start feeding them crumbles and that i would not have to give them grit yet. he tossed the bag into my jeep and when i got home i filled the feeder up with the crumbles. it wasn't till about half hr later that i noticed what he gave me was the Nutrena Gamebird Feed....?
nowhere on the bag does it even mention chickens. i took the feeder away from the chicks but they had been eating from it for a half hour. did i screw up? or is it OK to continue with this feed? i hope i didn't mess the lil girls up....

i know grit is not needed when fed chick starter. but what about now with the gamebird feed, will they need grit now?

I use gamebird for my flock so I can feed them all one feed from chicks to layers. I don't think you need to add grit if that is all they're getting, but I free range so they usually pick some up anyhow. If you're worried about it, but can't find chick grit just get some hen grit. It's quite a bit bigger, but I've seen my two week olds eating it so I know it will work.

My understanding is game bird feed is higher protein than chick feed, so its ok, they will just grow maybe a little faster.
I don't think they need grit with any crumbles, but someone else may know better.
