Dandruff

Today I was watching our two week old Silver Amerucana and Speckle Sussex. They where preening themselves and I notice white speckles flying out when they shook themselves. I picked up a speckle and it looks like dandruff.
Is it dandruff and is it normal?

don't know, as hot as it's been Maybe , but more likely I think would be mites or lice

Yeah, it's normal. Lots and lots of dandruff. Part of having chickens... or any other kind of bird.

It could just be feather dander. They have a lot when they're molting

It's the sheathing from the new feathers growing in.
It can be kind of iridescent and waxy feeling.
