Dang roosters crowing

I have these 10 chicks that someone gave me. They are 8 weeks old-bantam cochin, silkies, and oegb mix. I was going to take to roos (5) to the auction this past Tuesday, but I overslept. That isn't a problem now. They are screechy crowing at all hours of the day and night. I had to go out there Tuesday night, my anniversary, at 1:30 in the morning because they were crowing to the heat lamp. Now I scoop all the roos up at night and make them sleep in a dog crate in the yard. But as I am sitting here on BYC, the dang things are attempting to crow and I'm sure the neighbors whose house is 15 feet away are wondering wth is going on! Anyway, I can't wait for Tuesday to roll around again. Thank goodness the auction s every week and not every month, or we'd be eating tiny rooster soup!

Ya....I just got new neighbors. They mentioned my roosters. LOL They didn't complain....much..............

The roosters never bother me.....I can zone out any thing....but I have 5 kids and lots of practice.

When I find a roo in my pullets I usually post on craigslist for 5-10 bucks and longest it has taken to sell is 4 days. Most tell me they want a roo for breeding purposes, or to just watch over there flock...but I am sure a few of them ended up being someones dinner.

I used to sell mine on CL, but found I get more $$ at the auction, and much less hassle. If I have 5 roos, I have to meet with 5 peopleat least. I can just drop them at the auction, and I'm gone in 10 minutes or less. If I have a really nice roo, I will still try to sell him on CL though.

yea my cochin roo crows all the time but I love it I have 4 roos total and he is the only one who crows but I think he does enough for the rest of them.

Some roos have a more annoying sound to their voice than others. I had a little Sebright who sounded like a rusty wind-up toy and he crowed as if he were getting paid by the piece. It was so very refreshing to get him out of the yard, if he wasn't fraying your nerves with his crowing he was flaying your ankles with his tiny sharp spurs.

But then I had a handsome White Jersey Giant roo with an exceptional baritone voice, hearing him crow was like hearing an opera virtuoso sing. I wanted to capture his crow to use in children's recordings: "That's the sound that a rooster makes!"

I just have to clarify that I do love roosters crowing, but I live right in a neighborhood, on a smallish city lot. I only wish I could have a rooster! I just don't want them to annoy the neighbors, and truthfully, if I did have a roo, it wouldn't be penned up 10 feet away from my open window!

Coffeegirl, where are you located? I'm not in the market for roosters, just curious.

This morning I was drinking my tea and could hear my neighbors' chooks buk buk bukAWKing 2 lots away. My little cochin does that all the time. Makes me wonder what the neighbors across the alley think about the 2 little chicken flocks. Recently someone with a loud bass went thumpa thumping down the alley and the feisty banty sent up the alarm, Cracked me up that she would "take on" the bass.

my bantams can be pretty feisty too

I live near Salem-there roos are fugly. Got them from a friend and told her I couldn't keep the boys. I saw the roo, he was bantam cochin, and the hen looked like an oegb cross. The other mama hen (who died) must have been a silkie cross because some of the chicks have little feathers poking out of their heads, and five toes. No dark skin, but I've seen silkie crosses without that.
