Dangled Mealworms Create Chicken Zombies (Just in time for Halloween!)

i was definitely doing the whole hand-feeding thing, training the chicks that my hands mean good things are coming... IT WORKED TOO WELL. now i'm mobbed by 22 5-week old chicks everytime i try to move. i've taken to just chucking the worms at them. it's much safer. mind you, none of them have broken the skin, but a few have come close. and it's not that they are vicious. if i pick them up they are all snuggles and love, but an open hand invites all kinds of trouble. the worst offender.... is my little silkie male. i swear he's trying to make up for his small size by being a BIG BAD MAN CHICKEN! he snapped me so hard the other day, it was like pinching my hand in a door. little bugger. and i'm terribly bad about wearing flip-flops when i take them out to the yard. i'll be minding my own business, reading a book, and all the sudden my toes are getting pecked! it's like a game to them.

but i love it... even if it hurts a bit sometimes.

Sammimom- OMG I just spent about 20min pouring over your house/coop design. I LOVE it! It looks so nice with your house & yard! You guys were 'beginners?' Becuz that looks like a professional job. GREAT! I LOVE how it looks like a little house, with the flower boxes under the window & such... Very impressive!

Thanks! I've had way too much fun making it "cute." My husband is a pretty handy guy, but like most first time projects hind sight is 20/20 so for my NEXT coop I've got better plans...

my red's give me that SAME look when I grab the tree frogs for them just out of their reach and especially when they see the 1/2 gal of milk that just went out of date lol
My chickens love my 'fridge though LoL

I did not know that chickens liked milk !! I was talking to a couple at the donkey sale today and they told me ALL about it.

SO, I guess i will try to put some out as a treat in the next few days and see. I know that most of my flock loves yogurt, so why not milk.

I am told that it is really good for thier digestive tract and it cleans them out.
