Dan's incubation and hatching thread.

More eggs are in the incubator!
Since my bantams did not make it I've decided to go with another batch of Bantams. Decided to go with D'Uccle this time. Hopefully these will do better!
I've got two batches coming from two different sources. One is in the incubator now and the other should arrive at the post office tomorrow.

Hatch day is Aug 11.

So last update on the quail that hatched for this thread. They have been moved outside to their new enclosure. 14 survived of the 15. Not sure why the one died but it was the late hatch over 24hr after the others.

Why so many birds? Are you running a poultry farm?
Nope at least not right now. Just a hobby and maybe therapy lol.
I will be selling extras off though. I wanted 4-6 Australorp hens and the Bielefelders was a low ball bid I won and just an extra surprise. Always wanted them though. I plan on making another coop for them next year.
I will be collecting eggs for myself, my parents, and my sisters family. Plan on raising some for meat also. That's where the quail come in at though. They are mainly going to be for meat production. I love the taste of quail and they are cute little buggers to raise. This is my first time with them but I have a friend at work that has been raising them for over a decade.
The Bantams are going to be just for fun because I've always loved those little guys.
If.... If.... If I get NIPI certified I may start selling hatching eggs and may get another breed or two. But for now this should be it.

Update!
Chicks are in a outside brooder. (Well using the small Chicken tractor I made as one) doing great!

Now eggs in the incubator. I had 20 D'Uccle eggs and one mystery egg to start. I dropped one of the D'Uccle so that made 20 even.
18 of the 20 are doing great at first candling and showing good embryo development. 2 of the D'Uccle was no starts so that means 17of those are good and the mystery chick is still in the game.

Exciting times!

Where did you get your D'uccle eggs from? I use to have really nice porcelain breed, but I don't remember where I got the eggs from, it was about 12 years ago. Just curious.
