but then its only a 12.5 hour drive, could be a road trip in my future.

Yes, some dont get much over a bud, but most all mine over 2 years old get some pretty good ones to them. Then again ,my main pen of blacks now are 4 and just a nub is all any of those males have ever had, and they are out of two lines.

The selfblues I havnt seen any but had one blue one time that had a some on him.

I was worried about my silver quail rooster. He quit eating and sat around for two days. No other symptoms. Tonight I forced some molassas water and electrolytes in him, just so he got a few calories. A half hour later he is eating up a storm.

The birds are weird. They like to hide if they are sick and sadly by the time you find out its almost to late.

I also know around here there is no vets that have great knowledge when it comes to poultry. We use to raise registered Red Poll cattle for a long time and those you can tell when they start to get sick and usually pull them back in with ease, not chickens.

Prevention is worth every penny spent.


JJ, I hope your birds pulls through.....most time if they still eating it is a good sign.

I agree on the prevention, but this time of year its dark when you go to work and dark when you get home it can take a while to notice any weird acting birds.

yep I'm a construction worker of sorts (flooring) so I'm in the same boat. I hate this time, wish it was daylight savings year round. I dont do anything I need the sun for at 5 am anyway. But yes, it does make it very hard to keep a close eye on the critters this time of year. Thank God ol Bush JR tirmmed a few weeks off it back when he was in office.

Aubrey, been playing on the calculator again. Silver Quail male x BB red hen,then F1 x F1= Silver Duckwing, yellow/golden duckwing, silver columbian, silver quail and some other stuff. Have you tried this?

It's on next years list, gone take them to a columbian hen I have too, and have it going both ways. But yes, it works
