d'anver lovers, discuss the breed and post some pics!

Sunkss, you misunderstood Cetawin-she certainly wasn't yelling at you. We don't do that here on this thread. All we do is joke around and pass on a little education between pictures and good-natured ribbing.

I thought the feather shaft on lavs is white or light and this statement on another thread I found verified that:

I looked and couldn't find one good blue feather here to check it against the lavs I found, but that is on a solid blue or solid lavender bird, of course.

Aubrey, do you think this is a pullet, too, in this post? Not doubting JJ, just can't believe my luck this go-round if it is! I was thinking, other than the pink in the comb, that everything else said female, too.

you're doing right to doubt him Cyn!!! hahah

yep looks it to me for sure. Dont see any male looks to her. and yep I have never looked at the quills much on mine, but did today, yes they are as you said, near black on the blues and pale on lavender

Thank you ever so much! I am going to have a good look at them tomorrow and compare them to your photo. I don't remember them having any red on their shoulders but then again I was too busy staring at the red above their beaks.

At least I now know what to look for. I really appreciate your help.

if they are blue quail they wont have red on them, the blue will dilute it to a orangish cream sort of color, but the pattern will be the same

haha yeah its ok i dont mind him being male and you say his breast is off colored huh
what colored should it be and the bb red is a dutch so i dont think im gonna do that lol ill probably order some more eggs off you soon or just wait
i need me some more colors lol
solid black on the breast is the correct to type color for him. haha didnt even look at what kinda bird it was, I've got to slow down and look more, trying to run threw everything too fast now a days

Hey guys, thanks for the of pictures of 7-8 week olds. I keep looking at all of mine, and so far I beleive all 8 millies I got are pullets. The porcelain is a cockeral and a pullet pair. The gold necks, I beleive I have 2 cockerals. They are very different one from another.

I really need to take pictures of them and post so you can tell me if I am right. The porcelain no doubt is roo, he is crowing up a storm and breeding everything he can. The goldnecks barely have a comb, but it is more obvoius a roo, but in the millies I cant see any roos.

Other then comb, is there a pattern difference to notice to tell me sex of these guys?

Lets see they are 5/21 hatch date
have to agree with JJ there as bad as I hate to say it... ( this is pick on JJ hour for me seems like)

good thing with those colors is they are all mille fleur, you can breed them all together and not have odd ball colors. They will either be mille, mille split to lavender, or goldneck. Just keep up with who you bred to who and you'll have pairs of all of them pretty quick

Just wondered what my little chicken is! I was sure she was a d'anvers, she looks just like one, her size, shape, face muff, she is black with a tiny comb like the picture of a cushion comb. But now she has laid her first egg and it is BLUE. So what do I have?
bantam americana or how ever they spell it, Easter Egger in laymans terms. They look very similar to d'anvers but they they lay the green/blue eggs

Okay...updated pictures of the oddity...here he is at a little over three weeks old

And just for JJ...muahahaha

So what is it or have I created my own new color variation? Nothing surprises me around here. Oh and the solid black chick the broody hatched from the same pen...4 days earlier that the above...has silver peeking through so I without a doubt have silver somewhere.

Here are the birds minus one porcelain from that pen...I suspect the black lavender split to be the culprit but it could also be the lavender girl..

hairy legged silver mottled bugger chicken!!! LOL

They sell fungicide that will help clear that up I think...

Never seen that color on a chick though, 100% mottled for sure, but no idea what body color it will end up being, looks to have a touch of everything going on it. From the shoulders, compared to my gold duckwing, it looks as though it may end up being something gold based??? Hard to tell for sure though

Can you narrow down what you think the parents were? That may help.... Keep posting some progress pics though, it will eventually show itself.

Aubrey! You said more than three words! LOL, so glad to have you back on your own thread for a change. Hope all's well in your life.

That oddity that Cetawin posted was fathered by Rufus, the MF D'Anver rooster I gave her that came from you. The hens her daughter is holding are the only likely mothers, so the black project hen, porcelain and lavender hens (all D'uccles)

ETA: A friend and chicken customer of mine is going to take all the D'Anvers I've had up for sale for so long! She spoils her birds rotten so I'm thrilled to have them going to her. She's gotten so many birds from me over the last five years, worked at a raptor center and now at a vet's office so I never have a moment's hesitation in sending birds to live with Amy.

I'm keeping little Heather-Heating-Pad chick and one other so she has someone left that she knows in the coop other than her moms.

haha tell me about it Cynthia, been supper busy. Fishing, fishing tournaments, chicken stuff, hunting season comin, work and it rains every single day here any more. Glad to see some of it winding down so I can play a little more on here...

I know what you mean too about it being odd to get rid of some stuff. I cant keep most of them, but seems like any time you actually have extras you cant make poeple take them...LOL

Also going off the pics then, I am assuming the black mix if the mom then to that chick. Cant see her real good, but looks to be the only one that could have transfered all those genes.
If it were the mille or porcelain, the chick would be mille

if it were the lavender, it shouldnt be mottled ( unless she's a split) but then it should just be a black not with all the crazy stuff going.

So I'm betting the black is the mama.

Should be interesting to see what she ends up as
