Our dark brahma is now about 4 months old and as big as all of our full grown ladies. In the last few weeks, she has started to make loud calls constantly. It isn't a crow, it actually sounds like someone is stepping on her. She stretches out her neck, the feathers on one side raise, and she honks. LOUDLY. It is driving us crazy! I heard they were quiet birds, but she is way worse than our little roo, who barely says a peep! Worse, we are struggling with fox and hawks preying on our chicken yard, so I always have an ear out for the sound of trouble, but with her constant racket, it is often hard to hear the other hens with something is up. My husband is ready to turn her into dinner, much to my kids dismay. Any thoughts? Once a loud chicken, always a loud chicken? Or is it a phase?
