I know they are young but 2 of our dark brahmas feathers seem to be coming in a much different color. We have 2 different ages of Brahma pullets and pullets (although with the mass number the store received I think some are cockerels). The older pullets (dark, light, and buff are 5 weeks 2 days. We ordered from a hatchery and unfortunately they shipped during a cold snap and sat in a post office layover and we lost all but 6. Pretty sure we lost the 3 Roos we ordered. The second set we bought locally are a week younger, 4 weeks 2 days, dark and buff, and they receive straight run or pullet shipments from the same hatchery. They were supposed to be pullets. I believe the buffs are but I suspect a couple darks may be cockerels. The 2 in question are less feathered but the feathers they do have are so different than the known pullets. Almost no tail feathers, darker (black?h feathers coming in and more white? I know they are young and time will tell but I’m curious lol. First pic is a 5 week 2 day light with 2 4 week 2 day, a buff and dark. The next is 4 week 2 day dark, cockerel? 3rd is 4 week 2 day cockerel? 4th is the 2 in question side by side. All same hatchery just some direct younger had the way point of the store. Thank you
Do cockerels have laced feathers also? On wingtips, legs etc?
Thank you. We were actually hoping for a couple cockrels. We paid for pullets at the store but I told them I thought cockerel at days old for 2 of the 3 darks we got that day. They actually said they would give us a discount next time if my suspicions were correct. We mostly have pullets and actually needed a roo or 2.They can, but pullets will not grow in black feathers. They are cockerels unfortureatly.
