Dark comb but not frostbite?

My chicken is acting normal, but her comb is turning dark. Some days it looks worse than others. I don’t know what I should be doing to help her? She doesn’t act sick but I think she probably is because of her comb.

Here are some pictures from yesterday. During winter, her comb looked really red and beautiful. They have a large, ventilated coop so I don’t think it is frostbite.

She is 3 years old, and 3 other chickens, all fine. The days have been in the upper 50’s, and in the last week it’s finally up in the 70’s. Just normal chilly spring weather. They are protected from rain and wind in their run, and have a nice big coop with ventilation all along the roof, and I have had a window open for a couple of weeks. Some days I leave doors open also, if it’s a really nice day.

Is she laying eggs?

The darkening of the tips of the comb could be from reduced oxygen. She's older and has a floppy comb. Might be from the days getting warmer too, she may be having a little harder time with weather change as she's getting older as well.

If she's eating/drinking/active/poop looks good...then I would let her do her normal thing and just go into observation mode keep watch on her.

Yes, she still lays eggs. Not as frequently as she used to but I still get a few every week. And her comb has always been this large and floppy. She’s a leghorn. And I just realized she’s almost 4 years old. I went back and looked at pictures from last year and it looked a little dark then also. I always used to think they got frostbite with the old coop, so I built a much larger one and their combs got bright pink, except for those areas.

No, it's not frostbite. I used to have a Leghorn, as she got older and slower the tips of her comb would turn a bit purple. I always loved her floppy comb.
If she's acting normal, then I'd just enjoy her and observe :)

Yay, thank you! I hope she stays with us for a long time to come, but I will enjoy her while I can!

I wanted to show these pictures from today… see what I mean how it seems to come and go? Today her comb looks much brighter. Granted this is in direct sunlight but it does look better. I sure hope she sticks around for years to come. I love my girls!
