So, chickens are new to us, and today my Lavender Orpington was acting slightly lazy while eating, she walked and tried to escape just fine on approach, but she would sit to eat which is abnormal.
She's unknown age, but older than our others. She has been laying normally, I believe.
When I got closer I saw she had a darker comb than normal (they have gray legs and beaks but red combs). It appears to be on her ear flaps as well. I don't believe this is normal coloration for her though, especially coupled with the slightly odd behavior.
I do not believe it to be avian pox because it it not scabby at all.
I checked the bottoms of her feet, and they are normal but her legs are a bit dry and I am not sure if they are scaly-er than normal.
I checked for a stuck egg and she appear normal there but I did note she had some old impaction of her oil gland above her tail.
I've not seen problems with them before but at the base of the gland were two clearly dried up oil impactions. While enlisting the help of my husband for holding I cleared out the old dry gunk and let her be for now for observation. I'll check her again once she's roosting for the night because they are not hand tamed.
I did see exactly 1 red mite of some kind but no others anywhere I looked.
I'll post the photos of her comb and legs. But I did not get a photo of her gland.
Does this look like a potential blood supply problem? As mentioned before from reference pictures it doesn't appear to be pox. I didn't note any odd respiratory sounds, although is a hotter day than normal and I could tell she was hot. Could it be internal parasites?
Thanks in advance!
