Dark Cornish Meat Birds

VERY nice, especially for only 15 weeks. Perfect illustration as to why some of us might want to raise these as our meat birds.

I have a couple of DC roos that are starting to fill out 6 months old, and picked up one about 8 or 9 months old at an auction for a dollar and he is a brute. He is starting to get those thick legs.

Really? Wow, they are my first DC so I didn't know. I was dissappointed at first with them. And then about 3-4 weeks ago I could see them starting to take shape.
They will get those thick legs later on then? They are friendly birds and really curious. They have no problems venturing all over

I checked and they are 16 weeks as of the 8th of Jan. so I am a little off

I saved the best of the best and sold the rest so I don't know. I would guess dark pin feathers. Until I can get someone to sell me White Cornish-- hint, hint Al-- then I guess they will suffice. And I do think they are pretty too!

I raised Dark Cornish for two years and they were great birds. The hens get very broody and liked being in there coop. They grew about equal to the other birds I raised with them including RIR,Orpingtons,Barred Rocks. The Dark Cornish cocks are very beautiful and the hens are not bad looking either. They had great breast meat and thighs. I recommend you try some.

I was looking at the Dark Cornish again today and I will always keep them. They are so impressive the way they are filling out I can hardly believe it. And they are great free rangers too.
I really can almost see the daily improvement. I am sure it will stop soon, but they are getting big!
