Dark Cornish Questions???

That makes good sense Cornish are very jealous and dominant, they don't play well with others.

Like I said, this is an assumption I made from reading a description of the DC on Ebay. I'm not sure if there's any merit to it.

Any ideas on how to do this. Where would one obtain new blood?
This is a wonderful breed and would hate to see them die out here. You wouldn't think looking at these guys they would be so tame, but even the two Roo's she has will come right out of the pen and sit on her lap...

There are a lot of good Bantam Cornish out there. Have you joined the Cornish Club? They should be able to point to some good birds.

Yes, she joined the cornish club and most everyone we contacted on there with the Bantams also AI theirs

Oh, we'll try that too. Should have thought of that too, her silkies he have to sometimes. The males aren't even acting like they even want to, maybe their shy and wait until we are out of the room

This breed is a breed I wouldn't mind showing my self, but I'm not going to get them any from the child

Will just have to get some of their young, if we have any luck.

Are the Standards just as friendly? Now hubby wants to try some of them for himself to show. See what she started with these birds, love it

The Standard Cornish are my favorite Standard breed hands down. They are very calm and gentle. For big birds, they have very civilized ways of working out the pecking order. And they don't confuse people and birds, I think it is the lingering 'game' in them. Wait till you see them Tango, it is so cool!

They do get jealous, that's how I got my young rooster interested in breeding. I gave him two hens for a week, then took them and away and gave them to the roo across the asle from him, so he could see but was 6 feet away. I gave him his hens back, and Bingo!

I waited a month and collected eggs, I've got 4 in the brooder and more in the incubator--I can't wait to see what they turn out like.

OK.... Thanks guys that's not helping now we need some Standard ones

Anyone have any hatching eggs or chicks to spare.. We have really fallen for this breed, who would have thought a chicken could be such a great pet and in the four years she's been showing birds we have met some great people, learned a lot and still learning more everyday....

I agree! This is true with sharing "their people" too!

My "Tuney-bird" (Petunia) will peck any animal that gets too close to me while I am holding her. She's never done it with people, even the kids. She is a wonderful pet, and is definitely "top hen". I honestly don't know if she would let a roo near her! LOL! She is a pretty big hen, too. I love the standard Cornish! I had hoped to get more, but am having trouble finding them locally.

Glad to see they have their own little fan club on here.

Definitely one of the sweetest, most personable birds I've ever had. Mine lays 6 eggs a week consistently, too. Even through the winter. Then, she calls me, and stands there while I get it, and then talks to me while I thank her.
