Hi all, has anyone know about or seen this dark red yolk before. I have a new layer as well as 1-3 year old layers who are laying this dark red colored egg yolks. I’m hoping it’s because they just started laying again from winter break and not a disease or something. We’re in Pittsburgh PA

Hmm, are you giving them lots of greens?
Healthy yolks should be dark.
I give them food scraps we eat mainly organic and they don’t really eat greens. They eat cucumbers, cooked cabbage is only green food I can think and we feed them organic egg layer crumbles.
It’s so dark almost hot sauce color
It’s not appetizing looking and cannot get ourselves to eat them because they are so dark blood colored look.

Does the layer feed have marigold petals? Or something for darker yolks?
have you feed them anything like pumpkin or carrots?
if you have a problem eating them, scramble them and feed them back to your girls. They could use the protein if they're on layer.

Thanks I was worried to give them to the girls but have in the past. Same feed we’ve always given organic layer, I don’t see marigold and nothing has bloomed here yet. No pumpkin but could have given them cooked carrots previously. They are just so intensely dark red they look questionable
