Hi! I need some advice. I have an incubating pigeon egg(I found it down our alley just lying on the ground). It just hit day 0 today. I have noticed since I came home from work that there is what looks like a dark smudge on one side of the egg. It was NOT there this morning. Please can anyone tell me if this is normal during hatching? I saw on another Internet page that it might be wear the bird's claws have scratched the membrane and caused a small tear but that was in relation to a duck egg? The last time I candled the little guy was moving about and all was well.

Did the pigeon hatch?

Hi. No. I was advised to candle it and all the veins had receded and there was no movement at all 😭😭😭😭 I was gutted.

Yes. I have incubated chicken eggs before and I adjusted the turn to the size of the egg and it was growing great. I think when it was positioning itself to hatch it ripped the membrane. It died.
