I candled last night and there was one egg that hadn't pushed through the membrane yet, but was tapping pretty hard.
Today I looked in at them and that egg had a big ominous dark spot. Sure enough, it had died. But the dark spot wasn't like a rotting bacterial sort of thing. When I candled it, it was all within the air cell, and the spot that had seemed darker under regular lighting was BRIGHTER with the candler than the rest of the shell. What was going on? Is that something that happens if a duckling internally pips too soon and there's still excess moisture? I'm trying to collect as much info as I can about all the ways this hatch has gone wrong!
