Darling Mary or is she?

We lost Marvin today. All the other chickens were in the hen house, so I guess he sacrificed himself for them. As we approached the wooded area, we saw a hawk flying away and a bundle of orange feathers near the fence. I was ready to bury him, but my practical DH tossed him over in the vacant property on the other side of the fence. He said all the wild critters would clean up the remains. If one of the youngun's is not a rooster, we will be getting another. Of course, not as sweet and pretty as Marvin.

I'm so sorry for your loss. He was a very handsome boy, and apparently knew his job and did it well. Rest in peace, Marvin.

So sorry for the loss of beautiful Marvin..... please watch the other girls carefully now as the hawk will be back everyday now that it got a meal; and now that who- knows- what- wild animal got a carrion meal too...
