Darn another baby predator caught!

Raccoons usually get nasty when they hit puberty. I had a friend who helped at the nature center and they took in abandoned babies.

Another baby possum in the trap this morning!

STOP the madness and trapping, killing and/or relocating and instead just better secure your coop/run!!!! I trapped and killed my fair share and realized that it's an endless process, not to mention predators kill and eat other predators, i.e. raccoons and possiums eat rats and snakes. Once I put up hardware wire around my run, I haven't lost anymore chickens and I stopped having to deal with hassle of trapping and killing.

What are you going to do when you catch a skunk and then get sprayed? What if you catch something that has rabbies and then bites you? How fun will that be? If you read all the posts about predator problems, the vast majority are always due to poor coop/run construction. People using chicken wire (like me), forgeting to close a door, or letting the flock free range, or not having a covered coop/run, it's always the same crap. If the predators can't get in during the night, they'll move on and go find something else to eat that is easier to get.

So.....let me get this straight, you're recommending chicken owners just ignore and leave the vulnerable spots of their coop/run alone and just trap instead???? And that will last them for a 4-6 month time period and that's supposed to be a better plan? Well obviously you're an expert trapper, but 99.9% of the rest of us aren't. And when I did my trapping thing and managed to catch something every morning (didn't take much effort or skill), I personally was really glad I never got a skunk, and I shot the coons and possiums while still in the trap and never tried to relocate like so many others on here do.

So whatever floats your boat, but for me personally, I'm much happier now that I don't have to mess with it anymore.

But still not sure what you're talking about when you say "none" of what I spoke of? So if you've been lucky or skillfull enough to have never been sprayed or bitten, then that's great! Or you've never seen predators eating other predators, what the hell do you think they eat? However, I can't say that I have either because I'd rather sleep instead of stay up all night and watch.
