I just killed one in my driveway..
First one I have seen for years.. guess the chickens better be careful. Had chickens for 3 weeks and just as many snakes since then.I hope that Roo knows how to protect his girls.
They are so nasty.. they dont make a sound and blend in really well.. I hate those things. The harmless snakes I dont mind but Copperheads? ugh..
A few tips to keep snakes to a minimum..(cant be avoided completly but it will help a little)
Keep your gras low. Mow it at as short as you can.You can see snakes better and they cant hide in the gras.
Treestumps. fallen logs etc.. remove them. They love to hide or blend in the stumps and under logs.. Same goes for anything.Like old furniture etc..
Watch where you walk at all times.. Look around you in the gras.Be aware of your surroundings. Know where the chickens freerange and keep gras and debrie to a minimum.
Keep the chicken poop or smell ot a minimum.Hard to do but it can be kept to a minimum somewhat
