Darn Red Tailed Hawks!!!!

If you have lost only 3 birds in last 1.5 months and have 3 hawks about, then your chickens are probably not primary target for hawks. Regardless, losses you are experiencing are not desired so measures to keep birds safer needed. For now, covered run could be used or if continued benefits of free-ranging desired, then look into use of a chicken tractor.

It is so sad (and ANNOYING) when the hawks around here come around, kill a hen, and leave the carcass, having not eaten hardly anything of it!

Give the hawk time and it will return repeatedly over several days to eat most of balance. They are not all that wastefull until we interfere.
