Hi everyone! My name is Holly, my daughters name is Janelle (9). We homeschool and on our daily walk she found a goose egg sitting in shallow waters at our local pond Wednesday, 5/6! It had a crack but not severe enough to cause any yolk or fluids to leak out thankfully. We’re assuming a critter grabbed it out of the nest and dropped it while running away.
We made a homemade incubator out of a styrofoam cooler my husband brought home that evening, a bowl of water (started with a glass cup of water) for humidity, a seedling temperature gauge that was lying around our house and it shuts off the bulb when it gets to the desired temp, an old heat lamp and we’re using a 25w incandescent bulb (began with a 60w that was in an old lamp), and an oscillating fan on low for air flow and it’s been developing beautifully! We just purchased a hygrometer after we saw the embryo that can be seen in the day 4 picture. That should be getting here Wednesday. We’re here for support and wisdom during this journey!! We’re expecting for this little baby to hatch in about 27 days. Anxious and praying for a successful hatch and excited to be a part of this awesome community. My sweet girl has been praying her little heart out for the survival of this sweet baby goose ❤ Our hearts are all in after seeing the little one forming. Attached are the photos of the progress so far. I’ll attach the pictures of the suspected parents after we walk today. We believe all the ducks and geese have their nests far up in a very dense and covered area near the pond/park and don’t want to disturb them. They get quite aggressive so we are just trying our best to give this baby its best chance to survive.
