I was given 6 Random Marans Eggs by a local farmer. None of them were of exceptional color, and he didnt specify what kind of Marans they were from. He has black, blue, splash, wheaten, and cuckoo listed on his site. I've seen his pens and they're well organized to keep his lines pure. All I really want is a good hatch.

I candled the darkest egg at around 3am and was able to see movement weirdly enough. I was completely still so I know it wasn't me. My wife saw it too. I am curious though because isn't 10-11 days still a little early to see movement? Using a Nurture Right 360, 99.5°F and roughly 45-50% humidity.

No, you can see movement from day 3 on. Dark eggs are generally harder to see through. If I wasn't seeing movement in the eggs by now, I would be very worried.

Freaked me right out! I haven't hatched my own eggs since kindergarten over 25 yrs ago!

They do look way darker in the incubator! I'll try to get some.good candling pics next time I try it. I think I'm going to have to use the LED off of my gun to make sure its bright enough for these guys!

Sounds good. Incubating is fun, good luck with them! Fingers crossed for a great hatch! :fl

You can take play dough or clay and make a ring set that on the phone light and set the egg on the dough/clay. makes a seal , so it shines brighter and sets on the phone.
