18 eggs went in--two were quitters, one infertile--now 15 left looking good on day 15. I check a couple eggs every other day and the air sac seems a bit small, not too bad but want to make sure it is good. I have tried three different hygrometers and only one of them is close to the digital display on the incubator so I just don't know which one to trust. The lowest reading I have seen is 45% but not sure if that is correct. I know it is fairly easy to correct the air sac size so right now I am going to try to raise the humidity to 50%+ until lockdown and then go to 65%. Should I be so concerned about the air sac size or just coast through these last few days and not worry so much?

If air sacs are truly small.. you'd want to lower your humidity not raise it. What color are your eggs?

Too small of air sacs may cause drowning or malposition as it could allow the chick to grow too large to turn into position for hatching.

The incubator read out should never be trusted. Can any of the hyrgrometers you're using be calibrated?

If weighing is an option.. then weighing the eggs and calculating their average weightloss can be a good way to determine if humidity needs to be raised, lowered, or maintained.

Happy hatching! :jumpy

Oh ..... yes..... I knew better about the humidity level!! Not one of the hygrometers I have can be calibrated but I did do the "salt in a bag" test and one was +5% and one was -5% so not too bad. The air sac is about the same in all of the eggs.......in the round end covering the whole area and starting down the side a bit. I am comparing them to a picture I found of 7 day, 14 day and 18 day air sacs. I would say these are all more than the 7 day size, close to the 14 day......maybe I am just too worried about it. Eggs are light to medium brown large. Thank you for your knowledge!!
