Day 17 and i can see moving shadows in air cell!!!

Hi Marlene

When you say they were 'Shrink-Wrapped' I think the term may be used to generalise and not suitable to describe all situations.

I interpret it to mean the chick has the membrane stuck to it having possibly dried out after external pipping. However you said all those Dead in Shell were shrink wrapped BUT when you opened them was the membrane fully enclosing them so they had not even pierced the membrane of the air cell???? (Internal Pipping).

Hi Pete, from what i saw they was wrapped in the membrane and it did not apper that the had pierced the membranes in to the air cell.
Not sure what caused that to happen as i had 2 hatch absolutelly fine.

Hi Marlene

As you mentioned one chick seemed over large Im guessing that you incubated those eggs at a humidity abround 50% or higher. It sounds like the eggs had lost insufficient weight and the chicks were congested and therefore weakened. Often they die just before internal pipping which is why their beaks had not pierced the membrane.

Shrink-wrapped seems to convey a situation where the membranes have dried over the chick but in your case I think the problem sounds like too high humidity during incubation. The fully developed chicks appear encased in their membranes.

Hope that helps

I have an rcom mini 3 egg. I've just got a pip 2 days early so had to put a wet paper towel in, humidity went straight up so had to take it out again, now every now and then, I'm having to open the incubator for a split second to stop humidity going too high. EEEEEK!!!

Hi Pete , for the 1st 18 days i normally incubate with about 30% humidity and i keen a close eye on the size of air cell. I will probably try weighing the eggs before i start next time as you suggest on your article, and keep track of weight loss.
