Day 17 pipping

Update on day 21, just came home and set up a bigger brooder, got loads more chicks today, starting to loose count on how many lol, 11 chicks in total so 6 today i think and have 3 eggs that are pipped in the incubator and another 11 eggs waiting to see them hatch

The chick at the top right hatched on day 18 and on the bottom right that chick hatched day 19. They are 2 or 3 days older than some of the other chicks but don't' seem to be giving the new born ones much hassle thankfully.

Day 22, another 4 this morning bringing the total to 15. 9 eggs left in the incubator of which 4 have pipped.
Found an egg last night that i missed when candling and was not growing so cracked it open gently and only a messy yolk inside.
All chicks getting on well, thought there might of been a bit of pecking with an age difference of 5 days between the chicks but all is good.
Still can't understand why 1 hatched on day 18 lol
I'll post a photo later

nice going there , ur lucky to have Araucana hen

Yesterday i sent a text to the lady who i bought the eggs because i wasn't 100% sure of the breeds, what i thought was an Araucana is a Araucana x Cream Legbar, but looks like a Araucana chick?

Still happy with all my chicks for a first timer, BTW i got 12 Silkie eggs and all 12 hatched :)

I think overall i should have a 80% hatch rate :)

wow day 17 thats the first one i heard off lol Well done, i learned from my previous hatch that, a temprature of 38 degrees is a little toastie and can make the chicks pip early or go the other way and kill them. id probably try to keep the temp at 37.7 the temp of a hen. that way you dont risk killing chicks/

However well done xx

Day 24, in the end i ended up with 19 chicks out of 30 eggs, 1 chick developed spread leg syndrome but with the help of BYC search it is doing better with a band aid around its legs

I bought 2 batches of eggs from 2 different people and all went into the incubator at the same time, eggs collected on Friday and Saturday.
18 mixed which included Black Minorca, Cream Legbar and Light Sussex, the first egg pipped on day 17 and hatched day 18. Out of the 18 only 7 made it to the end, 3 were not fertile, 1 i dropped oops, and the others developed at various stages but never hatched.
12 more eggs were all Silkies of various colours, these done very well and all 12 hatched

and doing well, 1 with spread leg syndrome but now can move around the brooder, before it looked like it was swimming on the floor, poor thing.
Probably be next year when i try this again, the first 2 weeks i had no thermometer or hydrometer but when i did get one it looked like I'd had the temperature about right if not slightly high as GeorgRodway says above.
