Hello and welcome to BYC! :frow Glad you joined.
Are the coop and run built?

not yet, they are 3 days old at this point. We are doing our research and trying to get the best one. We know the viability at this stage is tough but we want to make sure we have enough room.

The thing is, they are going to be ready to live in the coop by 5 weeks old. 12 chicks also fill up most brooders very quickly. When they start getting bored, you start having problems. You don't have a lot of time.
Have you considered converting a shed into a coop? It works very well and speeds up the process quite a bit.

:welcome

Congrats on the new chicks, hope everyone is enjoying them! I'd get started building a coop asap, those tiny balls of fluff grow very quickly and for 12 chickens you're going to need a good sized coop.

Best wishes!
