Day 20 and only 2 have pipped.

Hi All!
We started with 10 and are down to 5.
We are on day 20 and got our first pip last night and another this morning, so far 2 have pipped.
How long should I wait before I candle the others that haven’t pipped yet?

Did you calibrate your incubator? Did you count the day you set as day one or the next day? It could be quite some time before they others start.

No I did not. Yes I counted Day 1 when I set the eggs.

Then it's only day 19. The first 24 hours are day 0. I usually don't get pips until day 21

Oh boy! I had no idea you start with Day 0. Is it ok they’ve been in lockdown longer then?

What's done is done and unlikely to have caused much, if any, damage. I've had all sorts of disasters while incubating, everything from a mother hen dying halfway through the incubation process to power outage on the last few days before hatch while using an incubator. I've even forgotten to remove the egg turner (forgotten lock-down) and hatched a batch of very dizzy chicks!

Long story short and not including disasters like dropping an egg, what happens in the first half of the incubation process is much more important to the health of your chicks than what happens in the last couple of days.

Worry less.

Happy to report we have 3 chickies so far! Still waiting on the last two that pipped today. Can’t wait! Should I leave the little grey guy in there until the other two hatch. She’s eager to get out!
my other two hatched under mom so they are happily in the coop. Will they stay warm in there all night under her? Should I move her inside? Lowest it gets tonight is 59

If the hen will accept them back, then you can place this little one under her immediately. The sooner, the better.

Edit: I didn't recall seeing that they had a mommy, but your last post strongly suggests that they do...

You realize that it's a rare hen indeed that will raise chicks if she's not broody... right? It's a hormonal thing for chickens to have a motherly instinct.

My hen has been broody. I stuck some eggs under her to hatch 21 days ago. They hatched today. I also for fun hatched some eggs in the incubator. She will raise hers and I’ll raise mine.
