I set 30 eggs on May 24th — so today is Day 20 and tomorrow is hatch day!!
The eggs are a mix of Golden Sex Link, Black Sex Link and Australorp.. They were delivered in the evening on the 24th so I could easily set them under my three broody hens, giving 10 to each. The hens had been sitting on fresh eggs already, so switching them out was easy.
I candled the eggs on the evening of Day 14 and the chicks were consistently encompassing most of the shell, in all but three of the eggs. I discarded the clear eggs. I'm glad that I candled them, as up to that point, I was certain that nothing was happening inside.
The hens have been great about setting, and I'm as excited about them hatching now as I was back in grade school.
I'm also nervous, as far as I can tell there's no motion in the eggs yet, and no sound as of today. Is that normal?
I've been checking for pipping but so far, nothing. But I have my fingers crossed!
