Day 21: 1 zipping

Two hatched at present. #1 jumped into a water tray, that i have relocated. But his warm bath soak the gunk off of him. Both seem fine.

Before our high school basketball game last night, a gentleman from my church fell and hit his head. We tried to find a pulse and started CPR. The ambulance got there quick, but Lynn didn't make it.

To watch these birds be born today has been helpful. It has reminded me that life goes on and miracles are all around us.

Oh man. I'm so sorry to hear that. Interesting how these birds are good at representing the miracle of life. I'd put a smilie here but none seem appropriate. I'm sorry for what you had to go through today.

1 little poo head (the first one) went swimming again and drowned. I have now put towels in the water trays where #2 might get wet but can't go under. I will check them in the morning.

Sorry about your first chick. I HATE losing them to drowning.

Good luck with the rest!

I am going to hve to look for trays that will fit under the wire floor. This is an OLD brower tin hen and tough to keep humidity in as it has drain holes. But this hatch has been an excellent shake down for next Friday's EE hatch. Once the Barred rocks finish, I am going to put all the eggs in the LG, quickly clean the Brower and set up for Friday's hatch.

I'm not familiar with the tin hens but if you can't put trays under the wire, is there a way you can add marbles or something to the trays to keep chicks from drowning if they get in?

I put towels in the trays. The chicks might hop in, but they cannot drown. I have brought home 2 little barred rocks and they are in the brooder.

I'm sorry you lost one!
