Day 21 bantam egg... no pip, peep, or movement

Its usually day 5 you can see veining roughly so maybe she wasnt sitting properly on it the first few days. Sounds fine to me, just stop taking it out and let them do there thing, sounds like day 23 is actually day 21 so dont get anxious, veins break down pretty rapidly and some arent active this close to hatch so b what you saw sounds normal, imo.

Just throwing this out there. Last hatch we had under a bantam in the barn took 24 days. She hatched 4 out of 6 eggs and we know the day she started setting. Regards, Woody

wait so seeing veins is normal? i checked again today and there are only a couple of veins left attached to the air sac.
but since my bantam is so tiny, she sat on 10 eggs! i knew some days i would see an egg or two poking out. i think not every got enough warmth so the process is a bit slow?

ok my egg is getting lighter but still can feel something. is the yolk gone that the chick absorbed it perhaps? also the egg looks more darker

hey! i havent been on this website for a while, but i just thought to tell you guys that, yeah.. the chick was dead. a while ago me and my dad opened the egg to see and yea it was pretty obvious that the chick was dead. it had yolk still attached, it looked perfectly fine and full grown, except the fact that the beak was scissored. i was devestated. i cried for so much and i still today cant keep my tears down, ya know. it;s really hard to take in. i just feel so bad for the mom because she tried so hard to keep them incubated and for all that hard work it didn't pay off so it's just so upsetting.... well anyways just thought you should know. thanks for your help.

That's such a shame, im sorry to hear that :( one of the eggs I lost earlier in the season was fully formed but dead and it had half of its beak missing ( top half) so I knew it would never have survived. How is the mum doing now? sometimes they don't take it very well and others don't seem to care. One of mine got nothing so she stole some chicks of another mum and they ended up co parenting.

i think she's doing fine, but she's just more aggressive i guess. only when you comfort her by placing her in your lap and petting her then she will be a bit calm. but now since spring is starting up that can mean for new chicks???

Im sure she will go broody again, and hopefully have some chicks this time and fufill her dreams of motherhood. one of mine is broody again, 4th time in 15 months, its coming into winter here so ill have to break her broodiness, shes done 3 hatches and raised them (and another 2 that she stole/adopted)so that's enough for now.

wooow 4 in 15 months? to me that seems like a lot. an update: a couple weeks ago i noticed she made her own nest in the neighbor's yard underneath the porch (but they were ok with that) and after a couple days she kept going there and retreating and had made the noises of when a chicken lays an egg so i was thinking hmm maybe she will go broody again? but nope. turns out after a couple days after i heard those noises she was normal and didn't go to that spot anymore. me and my dad couldn't find anything in the nest so either a) she hadn't laid any eggs at all or b) something ate them.

BUT... as of today, a few days ago my Silkie chicken went broody (i know this from experience with this chicken) her puffed out feathers, laying on the eggs non-stop except for a couple quick breaks, and her noises. currently there are 5 bantam eggs under her . i dont know every chicken who laid the eggs but i know atleast one of them is the silkie's so i hope the eggs will develop well because i know most of them are fertile and i dont want to get dissapointed this time. this saturday i am going to candle the eggs to see if anything is inside ^^

Congrats on the broody silkie, My Darla went broody again.... so 5 times 17 months. I had said no babies ( its almost winter) but she was determined, I also had no adult working roo ( we had to put him down due to failing health and old age) so no babies from the eggs she was sitting on. I didn't know what I was going to do, I culdnt deal with the depressing invisible babies thing again, so I was actively looking for day old chicks. luckily a few days before my mother had a hen come out from the woodwork with 7 babies, she was a show hen so mum didn't want her mothering, and on day 4 we removed her babies and gave them to my Darla who happily accepted them. they are now 6 weeks old and running a muck with the others. hopefully she can wait for spring, because there can be no more babies until then ( to cold, and wet) . It Is a lot, she is convinced that she must have all the babies.... .

that's a shame, it does sound like someone or something got them, if the eggs get removed or they get disturbed ( eg frightened by hedgehog) then they will usually up and move. good luck with the candling, I do hope you get a good hatch for your babies.
