We are hours away from it being day 21, thought I heard peeping early this morning, then I realized my bedroom window was open and it was coming from the sparrow nest in the eaves. :-) Realizing now that I have been keeping my still air incubator around a constant 99-100 degrees, tad bit cool. I'm thinking this will delay hatch date? Has anyone had experience with this, feel free to peep in?:):)

If you have a sparrow nest in the eaves of your home (in contact with your home) you risk bird (red) mite infestations coming in through your open window when the birds leave the nest. I would carefully remove the nest- per your judgement on timing of the removal- using a very long pole and run/take a shower afterward/wash clothes on hot water and dry so as to avoid mites getting on you.

Regarding your incubation:
Make sure you give your eggs three days past the hatch date in case they are late - I have read many people posting about how their eggs hatched late.

I don't have a still air incubator so I can't comment on your incubation but I hope they hatch soon for you!!

Thanks for the tip about the sparrows, definitely don't want mites! Little sneakers figured out how too get around my bird shield and built a nest in the middle of it. I'm going to close that window now.

I got brave and decided to open an egg I had not seen any movement in since day 14 sure enough the chick was dead, fully feathered with beak and eyes, large amount of yolk left. So sad, what was I thinking I love birds and seeing little one dead heart breaking. I'm wishing I would of marked my calendar with the two mornings I awoke to 97 degree or the 102 morning with humidity in the 20s so I could determine possible cause of death. The other five eggs I have left in, they show completely dark except for air cell and a clear ring below it. Here's hoping not a complete loss. Hard to find Bearded Silkies in my neck of the woods, so incubating shipped eggs seems to be my only option, I cannot order day old chicks, I would be horrified to get a box with any dead babies in it.

I have bought eggs from Catdance Silkies before- she is in Yacolt, WA and is "kelar" on BYC. Her silkies are lovely and she has a website (catdance silkies). She has pullets and cockerels for sale too from time to time. She will sell hatching eggs when they are laying though and I hatched them all out under a broody. I don't have them any more though but I should have kept them.

She also sells chicks from time to time.
