We have a broody bantam and we have some fertile eggs under her. Today is the day we have been waiting for but there are no signs of chirping. There was six eggs under her but now there are only four since a magpie took two. Also the other hens have been laying in with her and there are other eggs under her now. I have removed as much as possible when she gets off the nest but there are still some. Should I be hearing chirps and will the bantam be ok with lots of eggs under her?

I get worried at day 23. Some chicks take longer to hatch. I wouldn't want more than 6-8 eggs under a bantam hen. Sometimes you can't hear chicks peeping. I'd just keep an eye on them and I bet you'll see some pipping in the next 24-36 hours :)

End of day 22 and still no signs of chicks although I thought I might have heard chirps when I was checking on the hen earlier. fingers crossed they hatch
