Day 22-23 hen laying on 14 eggs- give up? UPDATE 6/22-PIPS!!!

You could go ahead and put the chicks under her and remove the eggs, if you feel pretty certain the eggs are no good. I just did this in the middle of the morning and mama accepted the 4 or 5 day olds even though she did hatch one that was younger. But it is probably safer to put the chicks under her after dark.

I will do that tonight-before they get much older-Im going to take the eggs and throw them in my bator just to make sure-ill candle them too to see if there are any clear ones too-thank you for the help! Ill keep you posted for the update-its a 50/50 that shell accept them right-I mean she might kill them?

I think that's a good idea. Maybe a couple more will hatch under her today if she stays on the nest.

The ones I just hatched/bought are also buff orps, which I chose partly because I want to raise chicks with broodies. Henderson's breed chart says buff orps are good or frequent brooders and excellent mothers. So I'm betting your chances are a whole lot better than 50/50!

Yeah I sure do hope so-these 5 chicks I hatched that were her eggs to begin with are beautiful and I would hate for her to reject them:-( I hope she hatches some out :)

Hopefully things will turn out al'right:)
