I was checking eggs this morning, noticed after I had opened incubator that one had finally pipped on the bottom and in the middle, not towards the large end. I moistened the membrane and put her back in with a steady humidity of 70%. My worry at the moment is the membrane is turning brownish around the pip site. Am I shrink wrapping? Should I give it some more time before I intercede since she is still pecking? I can't see more than the chick moving a little because of the location of the pip.
Someone please help keep me from overeacting!

It's trying with no progress that I can see. Saw it at about 11am and its now almost 6pm. Thank you for the links, Ill check them right now.

Honestly, this is probably the best advice I've seen. I've been away from BYC for a few years and this was not here the last time I was.

Well according to the pics the membrane is starting to dry. It;s been over 8 hours and no progress. I'll keep an eye on her till after dinner and then if still no progress I will take her into a steamy bathroom and start taking some of the shell off and moistening the membrane. This seems to be the best course of action at this time. I will keep you posted on what happens and crossing my fingers it works out well. Thank you for the links, I'm going to reread them and make sure I got this.

They can take up to 48 hours after external pip to hatch fully but the dry brown membrane means it will prob need help, get some que tips and warm water to dampen the membrane, tweezers or something small to chip the shell if you hit a vein and see bleeding dont worry just put pressure on the area with a dry que tip for a few seconds and it should stop also some kitchen paper dampened with warm water to wrap around the egg because if you see any bleeding you need to stop and put it back into the bator because it needs more time for the veins to recede, the wet kitchen paper wrapped around the egg should keep it moist and stop shrink wrap but don't cover the breathing hole with the wet paper.

-Treezers
-Warm water
-Que tips
-Kitchen paper

Sorry for the long essay lol :) its just on my first hatch i took the egg out without these essentials near by and had to go running around the house to get stuff.

This is my first hatch ever, I went into a steamy bathroom, removed shell for a zip and made sure the membrane was away from her beak. Then I wrapped her in a wet paper towel leaving the beak exposed. There was some very minor bleeding which stopped immediately but I didn't see any veins at all. I put her back in the incubator in a way I could see her through the window and to see if she can finish this on her own. She is breathing well and damp but never turned toward the big end of the egg. Crossing fingers. Meanwhile, the other egg I have in there pipped during this process. I will have to tread very carefully I know. The other egg looks like she is doing it the right way, LOL.
Pogmobum, I had everything in there with me including a flash light in case I needed it. Like everyone, I was hoping to not have to intervene at all but since I have I'm trying to keep it as minimal as possible.
Thank you everyone!!!!

I know I'm brand new to this site but, I have been reading a lot of posts over the last couple of weeks. When I didn't see anything that I thought was close to my situation I joined. Really glad I found this place. Now to look up how to post pics, LOL.
pogmobum, I'm just hoping I did do well for the chicks sake. I started with four eggs since this is my first time. Lost two of the eggs but I was prepared to lose at least one. This is so exciting and nerve wracking at the same time.
