Day 23, egg pipped this morning but

400
LOL I think she's got this. Just took this pick.

I believe this is an Americuna (sp?) Hen and the dad is either a RIR or a mix of RIR. She is starting to rest, peep loud then push and start over again. Each push is breaking off a piece of shell.

Haha i hope it works for you i ended up with to many roosters last time :) i hope the others hatch as easily for you. I just set my broody frizzle cochin on five eggs this eve shes been broody for over a week now and wont stop so i decide to let her go for it and am now having to build a whole new coop lol im just going to make it extra big because this will prob happen again

This was from a lady who just lets her roosters and hens stay in the same pen. She would collect the eggs every day to eat. When she found out I wanted to try hatching she couldn't get me to her house fast enough to see how this would work. I had only had the incubator set up for a day when she was insisting I come get the eggs. Luckily the temps always stayed good but I couldn't get the humidity up. Home made from a Styrofoam cooler. I tried to put together a computer fan so it would have circulation but I couldn't get the fan to work. So thats when I learned about dry hatching and while I was waiting for day 21 I learned how to get the humidity up and stable, I added water to the bottom of the cooler since I had the chicken wire in there too. More research shows that I probably should have kept my temps a tad higher than the 99 degrees since there was no circulation.
I learned so much with this first hatch. Broke my own heart a couple times that's for sure. These are some hard lessons to learn but I believe oh so worth it. Give me a sec and I am going to post a fluffy pic from earlier today. So tiny and cute!
