Day 23 HELLP

We had 5 eggs in our incubator we are now 22.5 days pretty sure theres only one thats made it to this point but the air cell has only just done what i can only describe as going from being straight to / today.

I have candled the egg as i was worried only had it out 20secs or so but couldnt notice any moving!

I really really want this one to hatch. The veins on the egg seemed to have gone aswell does that mean then sac has be absorbed!?

Id really appreciate some guidence at this point.

Is this a chicken egg? If so, 23 days is too long.

If you shine a flashlight through the large end you will get the best view. At 23 days, the air cell should be /, that is a great description. The rest of the egg should look completely dark. That's a day or two away from hatch. You likely won't see blood vessels at this point.

If, however, you can see a lot of liquid around a dark area at day 23, where the dark area is less than 2/3 of the egg, then it's most likely a goner.

The air cell is never absorbed. It should be about 20-25% of the volume of the egg at hatch time.

As long as the egg doesn't smell, feel free to leave for another day or so, then pitch it as a dud. If you post the type of incubator you are using and the conditions during incubation, we can make suggestions to improve your next hatch.

The first pic the egg looks full but the other pic which is the opposite side doesnt. The chick was moving up until yesterday
We have a homemade incubator but temps been fine and so has humidity weve turned them correctly also the veins in the egg dissoeared this morning when i looked and yes they are chicken eggs

Worry, but it looks like the chick died early. By day 19 it should look all solid but the air cell and blood vessels with only a little fluid. By day 20 you should hear cheering, by day 21 hatch.

It's not uncommon for a dead embryo to float around in the egg and look like it's moving when you pick it up.

For a double check, you can fill a small bowl with warm water, 100F, and gently place the egg into it. The air cell end will be above water. Let the water get still and watch the egg. If the chick is alive, the egg will jerk and bob. Real movements, erratic. If you see those, put it back in the incubator.

Never do this with a pipped egg or the chick will drown.
