Is there anything I can use other than coconut oil?Okay. You don't have to remove alot of shell, just a small amount, & apply some coconut oil?

Water, but it doesn't last as long, & it might drown your chick. Is there anything I can use other than coconut oil?
OK so I tried to peel a little more shell of to take a look and the airsac is a bit ripped with some blood, but I cannot see where this chicks beak is. The egg is still moving and wriggling. I can see in the egg slightly and I can see its body pushing against where the air sac has split. There is still no peeping.i don't want to assist further rigtt now as there is some fresh blood.Water, but it doesn't last as long, & it might drown your chick.
Okay, alittle bit of bleeding is okay. As long it's not a lot of blood it's fine. The tear in the aircell will probably help the chick get in there quicker. Wait, & see if it's able to get in there?OK so I tried to peel a little more shell of to take a look and the airsac is a bit ripped with some blood, but I cannot see where this chicks beak is. this is my most stressful hatch yet!Yep.
Some broodies aren't trustworthy. Sometimes you have to remove the first couple of chicks to prevent the hen from leaving the nest to soon.this is my most stressful hatch yet!
5 weeks ago i hatched some in my incubator. they all hatched fine apart from one who hatched with a ruptured yolk.
normally its easy under a broody....but this year i let a first timer hatch them. she left the eggs once 2 had hatched!
I assumed she would be like my other broody, I was so wrong. Some broodies aren't trustworthy. Sometimes you have to remove the first couple of chicks to prevent the hen from leaving the nest to soon.
