I just hatched some chicks with my incubator for the first time! I'll be honest... after my first incubator not working I wasn't really expecting much! Day 20 I started stalking my incubator. 😂 I literally put a chair beside it and just sat there watching for hours at a time. Day 21... I had my first pip!!!! The first egg to pip wasn't just any egg.... it was a fairy egg from my silkie that wasn't even as big around as a quarter. I was shocked! I sat there ALL DAY waiting to welcome my babies in to the world! By the end of the day my little fairy egg hatched successfully! She/he is a silkie/EE cross. She is super small but she has ALOT of floof! She/he seems very healthy! Not long after my fairy egg hatched I had more chicks hatching out! By the end of day 22 (yesterday) I had 13 chicks total! That leaves me with 7 eggs in my incubator. Now on day 23 and no more pips yet. My question is how long do I wait before removing them and doing a eggtopsy? I haven't heard any chirping from them or seen any rocking going on. Should I go ahead and candle them or is that a bad idea? This is my first time so I still have alot to learn... but overall I think I did ok! Any advice helps! I just don't wanna mess this up lol. Thanks.

I've done this before. You must be very fast but gentle.
If the chicks are dry, I'd very quickly take the chicks out and leave the eggs for a couple of days.
If your incubator isn't near the brooder, Get a small cardboard box 📦. Open the incubator and quickly take all of the chicks out and put them in the box. Close the incubator and put your chicks in the brooder. If your incubator is next to the brooder put them strainght in.

Make sure all of them are dry so you dont have to keep opening it to take them out.
Leave the eggs for another few days

I got all 13 chicks moved to the brooder. :) I'll leave them a few more days then and do a eggtopsy on the ones that don't hatch. Would candling the eggs at this point do damage?

Well, you could do a quick candle. But it won't realky help. They may be fully developed, but just dead. Candling doesn't really tell you if they're alive or not.
You could throw out underdeveloped eggs and leave the fully developed ones.

Hello! I've seen a lot of people on here saying to wait till day 24-25 to take eggs out. I haven't used an incubator so I'm not sure about when to take the babies out, but I know that with the eggs, mine right now are hatching 3-4 days late so you might want to wait till the 24th or 5th day and then do "autopsies".

Also do you got any more pics of these cute lil ones!:love

I have a hatch-a-long thread you can check out that has tons of pictures! :) I'm gonna candle them and take out any that aren't fertile.
