Day 23 & no chicks :(

I had 3 hatch on day 20. Two had stopped, so I got rid of them. The last one has a chick in it, dark and heavy, but it is day 25 tomorrow, Friday. What are the chances it will hatch in your opinions? I kind of want mamma to move a bit, but she is determined! The three babies ar thriving and so cute. I have food and water within reach of mamma.

@FinsUp From my experience the odds are there. Just can't say how good they are…. It's funny, my late-late day 25 chick arrived on a Friday and we named her Friday for that. Hopefully you'll get a surprise baby today as well

Still only 1 chick, I am sad...still going to wait a few more days...I feel bad for the 1 chick too!

Any updates?? I have a broody sat on 11 bantam eggs and its day 21 with no sign

This has given me hope though!

We have 2 Ameraucana & 2 lavender orpington eggs under our two broody hens and it's day 21 today. We haven't candled (totally forgot to), so not sure what's going on in there, but we haven't heard any peeps or seen any cracks. This thread gives us hope!
One question, is it too late to candle them now? Or should we not touch them at all now?

Hi everyone --

First of all, thanks for these posts, they've been super helpful!

It's our first time letting a broody sit on eggs and it's day 23 and we had one chick hatch on day 21 (still doing great!). Mama is still sitting on the nest but I'm not sure how long to let her sit? I didn't know to candle early on so I don't know how many are viable.

Should I disturb her to candle the remaining eggs tonight? She's not particularly pleased if I poke around under her to check for pipping or other broken egg shells. Now that I've heard that they can take longer to hatch I'll probably wait another day or two, but I don't want any rotten egg messes.

When should I remove eggs that haven't hatched? Will she get off the nest when they are done hatching (as I've read on other threads on BYC), or will I need to kick her off?

Any advice is very welcome, thanks in advance!

Cheers, Karina

Hi it's my first time with eggs under a broody hen. It's day 21 and no chirping or cracks. I was rather disappointed. We tried to candle but mama was very angry with this so we didn't get to check but one. It was developing. We found one on the ground out of the box last week cracked. Didn't do a lot of inspection but there was blood.

I'm guessing we try to be patient for a few more days?

Hi there, I hatched some bantams under a broody last week, we got to day 22 with no signs but day 23 we had pipping and day 24, 25 and even 26 we had hatches. I've read that the later they hatch the less chance of survival, sadly out of 5 successful hatches we are now left with only 2 but they are doing really well. I know for definite one of these that we have left was the first one to hatch, but whether that's just coincidence I'm not sure. Good luck with your hatch! I'm sure you'll be rewarded in the next few days :)
