There were 8 eggs. They were a bit old, I put them under one of my broodies for my mother. with candling throughout the hatch, I identified the dud eggs. there were eventually only 2 eggs. Of the 2 eggs, there was definate growth and development. but on day 17, there was only movement in one egg. That egg pipped on thursday morning and hatched early friday morning, roughly 18 hours ago.
The remaining egg did not show any movement on day 17 and has not pipped yet. the air sack is also quite large still. there is no movement after a brief and careful candling.
Can it still hatch? If not, what might have caused this chick to die before hatching?
My hen is still on the nest with the egg and the one chick. She doesn't get up at all. I give her food and water in the nest.
