Hello! This is my first time hatching chickens in an incubator. I am hatching Rhode Island Reds and it is day 23 of incubation. Some of the eggs have veins that look like spider webs on the sides, while others have black dots and white marks on them. What does this mean? Will my chickens still hatch even though it is past day 21?

Have any hatched at all? Or are these stragglers? Or none have hatched and it’s already day 23?

None have hatched yet. I am getting a little worried (Thank you for responding)

What temperature were they at this whole time? And what kind of eggs, like what chicken breeds?

Oh you did mention that. Sorry must have overlooked it.

What incubator are you using and what humidity level has it been?

also what thermometer have you been using?

I’m trying to think of all the basic questions to ask.

they dropped a little when I put water in the incubator to keep the humidity levels up

Usually chicks are delayed when the temperature is too low during incubation. When you candle the eggs, they should be almost completely black, and you shouldn't be able to see much veining because of how large the chick is. Can you clarify what you mean by 'black dots and white marks on them'? You see this during candling?

Have any of the chicks pipped/can you hear any peeping?

There is still some chance, I had one chick hatch on day 24 (though some assistance was required).
