The chick is definitely alive (I just candled this morning and I can see it moving, making movements that look like breathing), but no pipping, even internally. All the others hatched 2 days ago. My concern is that the incubator is starting to SMELL to high heaven from the hatch debris

.....I removed most of the shells along with the chicks yesterday, but there is still enough sticky yuck left in there to start smelling. Im worried about bacteria contamination in my little lone chickie...what should I do??

My incubator stunk to high heaven, and still had five more chicks hatch out fine two days after the main hatch. I didn't leave them in long to try off fearing contamination. They are all doing well in the brooder.

oh good you've given me hope then! I just checked it again, thinking for sure it would be dead, but no it's still moving! I hope he/she hurries up and makes their debut, I can't wait to get the bator cleaned and sanitized.

Yea, just keep an eye on them when they come out. If they aren't mushy chicks, I'd get them out and in a brooder so they don't get any infection just to be safe. If you put them with your other chicks, make sure they don't pick on the noobie too much till it has its footing.
