I realize that in an incubator eggs often will hatch on Day 23 or 24. I read this section extensively when I was trying to hatch with my ol' LG.

I now have silkie eggs under two broodies. Half hatched today - Day 21. Here are my questions: How long should I wait on the remaining eggs? Have you ever had a broody hatch out a late chick?

Thank you for your help.

I'm no expert but I would think she would kick the eggs out of the nest if they were bad. If it is not an issue for you I would give them a few extra days. You never know you might get lucky.

With our latest broody hatch the hen decided when it was time to get out of "broody mode" she had 8 chicks, she buried the 2 remaining eggs. The eggs weren't really "late" or anything, but she wanted out so we moved her and stuck the other 2 eggs in our incubator with our guinea eggs. The 2 eggs never pipped so we assumed they died somewhere between the last candling and hatching.

If the mom decides she wants to get off and if she's up and walking around and you can't see the other eggs, chances are she's done and the other eggs may not hatch.

Good luck
