Should I remove the egg? We candled on day 20 and the one that is about a week or so behind had obvious movement and this one did not. It was just dark with the air sac still in tact. Should I remove and candle again? I would rather not open it up to see the dead chick but I also want to be sure it is dead before I get rid of it. Our girl has been pretty good about sitting on them, we have had some cooler weather, I just don't know! I guess at this point I could:

Remove and candle again
Open it up (do I risk killing it?)
Leave for another day or two

This is a silkie egg under an easter egger hen

Thanks!

Okay so I just candled it and its moving. Air sac in tact and no sign its been pierced by a beak. Do I intervene? I’m positive about my dates. We put it under her April 21.

She definitely has stolen some eggs, she actually has a 2nd one under there that is also growing and we have no idea when/where/who. There was a 3rd that I removed but I candled it and it was a dud and I had previously candled the other one on day 6 or 7 and it was definitely growing. Next time I am writing on the eggs! Assuming this is a day 23 egg, I guess I should just keep checking on it? Im going to try and not touch it moving forward.

Okay day 25 today. Last time candled was Thurs night and there was movement. I don’t think I will intervene. I was worried that maybe it was in a poor position to pip and I could intervene and help it but perhaps its just better to leave it. Though if its going to die anyway? I just don’t know!

Sorry, I was hoping you were going to candle and post a picture like I had asked about earlier :) It's really hard to say what could be happening without that kind of picture.

I candled but there is nothing to take a pic of, its completely dark except for the air sac and a small veined area where I saw movement but no way a camera would pick it up. I decided to leave it alone as moving it could complicate things but that was 3 days ago. I’ll probably remove it tonight as its most certainly dead now.

Sounds like it was fully developed but just didn't hatch for some reason. I would candle again tonight just to double check before tossing it.
