It’s day 24/25... I had 15 chicks hatch no problem right on schedule on day 21. They were Wheaten Ameraucana x Gold sexlink crosses. 5 of those crossed eggs died in shell and looked to be mal positioned. I se t 3 pure Ameraucana eggs 2 were infertile and one is still moving in the egg! This is the second time this has happened to me. Last year out of almost 60 Ameraucana eggs set I had ONE that made it to hatch. He hatched out late and was definitely “over cooked” he had some weird things going on the first 24 hours after hatch but otherwise he was fine. I adjusted my temps like someone suggested and I did a dry hatch thins time and I think that’s the way to go for me in my area. What’s going on??? I’m about ready to loose it with these wheaten Ameraucanas! This is also a different rooster than last year. Suggestions?

Officially day 26 and look who decided to FINALLY make their grand appearance! Seems fine just tired from the hatch.

(Sorry for the bum shot)

AWWW YAY YAY YAY!!!!!!!! I love seeing late hatch happy endings! <3 I know that chicks can take up to 26 days and be okay, yours are proof! Chances are your temps were too low; not too low to kill them but low enough to delay their development by a few days. CONGRATS on your new peeper! :ya:jumpy

Low temps.
Calibrate your therms and hygros.
This is how I do it:

I’ll try that. But the temps wouldn’t explain why someone else who has a doz. and a half of my eggs is having the same issue. Today is day 22 or 23 for her and nothing! I did raise the temp slightly like you suggested for this hatch and again, the EEs hatched right on time and the Ameraucanas are left to hatch later.

It might if you both test your therms and see they are both inaccurate.
Another common mistake is to count the day you set the eggs as day 1 instead of the following day...I do that all the time.

I’ll check temps before I hatch again in 2 weeks. Even if I miss calculated the hatch day, this Ameraucana still hatched on day 25. I pretty sure I set them on a Thursday afternoon/evening.

My husband has dubbed (hopefully) her “Kirby” :gig
