Day 25 & no sign of hatching

My Bantum insisted on hatching an egg. She kept brooding on the other hens’ eggs but I kept taking them away. Didn’t really want more babies. But I gave in and let her keep one. I candled it a few days later to make sure all was as expected. It’s now day 25 and no sign of hatching. When candled, it’s all dark. Water test indicates it’s a viable egg. Should I assist the chick? I’ve never run into this problem before. She’s not leaving the egg at all now.

Can you post pictures of the candling? Maybe your hen runs cool?

Are you sure what date the egg was laid? that can confuse a lot!

has the chick internally pipped? you could just put a safety hole in. here is an article you might want to read through.

and sometimes, chicks just take a while. Ours hatched day 25.

Please don't assist.Let nature run its course. It will hatch when its ready.Some will hatch late .21 days is average some come early & others late! The chick will peep when its ready & the egg will rock & roll. Patience is a virtue!
