day 25...unhatched egg under broody hen...toss it?

Is it ok to crack it open to see what happened inside? I am afraid of what is lurking in there if it hasn't hatched yet. What are possible reasons it didn't hatch? It was under the broody hen that we hatched 3 other little chicks from at the same time.

We candled it and it is definitely full of something that resembles a chick...just afraid it will smell or something....

I would inspect it from inside a baggy.....

I would do the bag trick, too. Did you have the eggs marked or something? I've always waited around a week or so before tossing eggs from under a broody hen. If you're uncertain if she laid another egg after the fact, then I'd give it a few more days. My girls tend to add to their batch over a weeks time or so.

yes it was dated July 6th so it is way overdue. Going to remove it today. What is the best way to break it inside a baggy?
