Day 26 no hatch, opened egg, chick moved!

Oh my and I thought I'd go nuts waiting the 21 days lol[/QUOTE
Did you mark and set all the eggs at the same time? Or did you let her accumulate eggs? Did you check daily and remove any contributions from other hens? Could be that you're in for a staggered hatch, with eggs at different points of development. Have an incubator on standby, just incase she decides she's done sitting.
thanks for the reply. I gathered the eggs and gave them to her all at once. I put her in her own pen, no other hens added eggs. I don't have an incubator, and first time for this hen too.

Let us know how the candle goes! I hope you get some chicks out of this.

Well sadly no chicks. At day 29 i gave up. 2 eggs were duds, 2 had dead chicks. One thing I learned, my hen did not stop laying during this sitting period. I didn't realize till I forced her off. I removed her new eggs but I think the clutch got too big and the outside ones got cold and died. That's the only thing I can see went wrong.

But on a good note, the day I gave up, another hen went broody and is now sitting on 9 eggs for 4 days now. Happy to try again!

Kim,

It's something you will get better at, I have a Broody (Goldie Leghorn, the Belgian D'uccle Cross Frizzle) who was amazing and the 4 baby's are 8 weeks old, 2 X Silkies and 2 X Pekin's she is still mummy and only just starting to tell the bigger Silkie to go away. Not laying again yet. Ume my Silkie started being Broody and sat for 2 weeks and the 4 eegs were in my incubator. 3 x Cochin and 1 x Silkie. on the last incubator date I ran the eggs at night and put them under Ume. 20 minutes after (day 20) I had babies hatching. She was never a great mummy, and the 4 x babies turned 3 weeks and Ume started laying again like crazy I had 11 eggs, in just under 2 weeks. she wants to be part of the flock again back still tells the other not to mess with her babies.

Here is a Eggs Chart, I only Candle 3 times 7 days 14 days and 18 days before lock down.

Good Luck and enjoy this, it's amazing.

Thank you! Happy for your success! Hoping I can do the same. Don't have an incubator so hoping the natural process with this nice hen does the trick

Gosh. I'm so sorry! I don't know but I wish you the best. I'm having the EXACT same problem right now. I opened one, all are fertile, none appear dead through candeling. Don't know what's going on with the slow development or something. Mine are way overdo. <3 Goodluck
