I'm on day 26 with my duck egg, and we are officially in lockdown.
I saw some shadowing at the end of day 23 and this continued until lockdown. When I candled then, I thought I could see a point pushing the membrane up and working at an internal pip. As of now, no peeping, no external pip, no bruising, no beak in air cell-
However, the last time I candled as we went into lockdown, I saw movements from the baby which looked almost like inhaling and exhaling. Like it's body was very slightly rising and falling. But no beak to be seen and no audible peeping or tapping.
The air cell seems partially filled with the baby on one side, maybe its just the shape of the air cell and the baby is still under the membrane, I dont know. The air cell continues diagnally down 2/3 of the egg's length. Is this normal? Before it was a normal level air cell but I assume this is a typical change when the air cell drops before pip.
The baby is moving in the egg a little, definitely alive. No yellow area between duckling and air cell, no liquid from what I can see, the egg is full, black, totally full with the duckling and the shadowing looks black/grey in the air cell.

Do I have an internal pip? Can you see the duckling breathing like I mentioned? Is it normal not to see the beak in the air cell at this point? (can they pierce the membrane and then lower their beak back down)
Is this normal progress for day 26?

I really really appreciate any thoughts, as this is my first try hatching duck eggs.

I will add that temperature is 37.5 Celsius, fan incubator, they are Aylsebury cross (cross Pekin I believe). Entering day 27 in a few hours. Anyone have any thoughts on this?

The shadow and breathing you saw sound like an internal pip. Hopefully you have ducklings soon.
not sure if it was or not at that point, but I can hear nice strong peeping from that egg now! Very relieved. Now I'll sit back and wait and hope :fl
I've incubated quail eggs before, but they were very badly shipped and the only chick that made it to lockdown passed away- so this time is very exciting for me as I've never had an internal pip before :D
I'll keep this thread updated!
