Day 26 pipping updated: new baby

Your chick is not black shoulder as they are completely yellow once hatched. Shipping tape works great for straightening toes.I'm sure i'll have a few to straighten this year

Even males are yellow? I didnt know that! Thanks. Well I'm guessing the Java male is the daddy then. Unless breeding BS to BS will can give the barred wing pattern still? I've read on other genetics, im going to have to read up on BS. Should be interesting to see what I get....no matter what it'll be beautiful :)

Yes,male and female b/s chicks are all yellow at hatchtime. One parent can be b/s and the other not and you can still get b/s chicks,,,both parents b/s and all chicks will be b/s

Well it's Java male x midnight BS hen. Thanks for the info! You all have been great!
My girls want to name it Dragolin after a Steven Cosgrove/Serendipity book..,one our favorite childhood authors.

Frenchy one parent bs and the other not would give you IB split bs you wouldn't get a bs chick?
Black Shoulder to Black Shoulder produces all Black Shoulder chicks.
India Blue to Black Shoulder produces all India Blue chicks and carries the Black Shoulder pattern.
Black Shoulder to White produces all India Blue chicks split Black Shoulder and split White.
India Blue split Black Shoulder to Black Shoulder produces 50 % Black Shoulder and 50% India Blue split to Black Shoulder

Got those from Brad's website. As for the chick it looks IB but I do not know what a java chick looks like

Well it will only be Spalding, as mommy is a midnight BS...Daddy is Java:) so it could look more like IB when it grows up. But I love what most Spaldings look like and was hoping to get a Spalding midnight.....I for sure will keep updating as we grow!

I did some research on the midnight color. It says IB x midnight = IB split to midnight

So I'm guessing with a Java male, I'll have a IB Spalding split midnight? There are so many genetic variations! But I'd say genetics of colors get easier the more you work with them. I'm grateful to the breeders that share the info with us.

I have a Japanese Bantam sitting on six eggs.
today is DAy 23.
How long should she sit on them.??
I have read about different days. 21, 24 days.

I don't want to throw out the eggs if they are not done.
she is an indoor bird.
These eggs are from another bird, they are not hers.

Thanks.

I let my Japanese hatch her peachicks last year and they hatched in 28 days. She was also indoors, lol. I say just let her hatch them and teach them to eat and drink, but only if you are sure she's free of cecal worms.
